ABIDJAN, Dec 4 (Reuters) - Ivory Coast cotton output for the 2018/19 season is forecast to be 470,000 tonnes, up from about 413,000 tonnes the previous season, the cotton ginners association has said.

“It’s a good amount. Rains were well shared this year except for too much rain during the sowing season in June,” Christophe N’Dri, the association’s executive secretary, said on the sidelines of an international meeting on cotton.

N’Dri said the initial goal at the start of the season was 500,000 tonnes. The government has said it aims to hit 600,000 tonnes of production by 2020.

The cotton season in Ivory Coast runs from May to April, with sowing from April to June and harvesting from October to January. Ginning and marketing take place from November to April. (Reporting by Loucoumane Coulibaly; Editing by Juliette Jabkhiro and David Evans)
