More Demand and Weakening Futures Prices

Mill demand was slightly brisker during the week under report. The cotton quotations at the ICE in New York had constantly given in during the last days and ranged about 2 Dollar-Cents lower than one week before. However, the prices for cash cotton remained steadier. This was reflected by the Bremen and Cotlook Indices which were just 60 and 45 points lower, respectively. In the domestic market, short term demand became again visible. However, in view of the current price level fresh purchases remained limited to no more than the absolutely necessary, while Eastern markets in contrast purchased at this level.

Turnovers in the Upland range were registered as follows: Central Asian sorts for prompt and through into the 2nd quarter 2010; Greek descriptions for the 1st quarter 2010; West African styles for dates in the 1st and in the 2nd quarter 2010, as well as smaller quantities of Brazil and Israel Acala cotton for prompt.

In the extra-fine range were traded: Israel Pima and Sudan Barakat for prompt / 1st Quarter 2010.
