U.S. EXPORT SALES FOR WEEKENDING 5/18/2017

Cotton:  Net upland sales of 16,200 RB for 2016/2017--a marketing-year low were--down 87 percent from the previous week and 88 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Turkey (10,800 RB), Brazil (8,800 RB), Vietnam (8,500 RB, including 4,400 RB switched from China and 400 RB switched from Indonesia), Malaysia (3,400 RB, including 500 RB switched from Indonesia), and China (3,100 RB).  Reductions were reported for India (11,500 RB) and Bangladesh (4,300 RB).   For 2017/2018, net sales of 236,200 RB reported primarily for Vietnam (125,000 RB), Indonesia (42,000 RB), China (26,400 RB), were partially offset by reductions for Mexico (3,300 RB).  Exports of 332,800 RB were down 14 percent from the previous week and 9 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Turkey (76,700 RB), Vietnam (61,000 RB), India (47,100 RB), Mexico (22,400 RB), and Pakistan (14,800 RB).  Net sales of Pima totaling 5,600 RB for 2016/2017 were down 14 percent from the previous week, but up 29 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were primarily for China (3,200 RB), Indonesia (1,200 RB, including 200 RB switched from Japan), India (600 RB), and Egypt (500 RB).  For 2017/2018, net sales of 1,800 RB were reported for Indonesia (1,000 RB) and Egypt (900 RB), were partially offset by reductions for India (100 RB).   Exports of 13,000 RB were up 15 percent from the previous week, but down 14 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The destinations were primarily China (4,800 RB), India (4,600 RB), Vietnam (1,500 RB), and Turkey (600 RB). 

Exports for Own Account:  New exports for own account were reported to Indonesia (5.700 RB), China (4,100 RB), India (3,800 RB), South Korea (900 RB), Vietnam (400 RB), and Malaysia (100 RB).   Exports to Turkey (2,200 RB), Malaysia (2,000 RB), South Korea (1,200 RB), and Thailand (300 RB) were applied to new or outstanding sales.  Decreases were reported to Vietnam (2,200 RB) and Indonesia (900 RB).  The current outstanding balance of 117, 600 RB is for Indonesia (57,600 RB), China (23,800 RB), Taiwan (14,100 RB), Bangladesh (7,200 RB), Vietnam (4,200 RB), India (4,200 RB), South Korea (4,100 RB), Thailand (1,900 RB), and Pakistan (500 RB).
