Increase in clothing and textile imports from China to Europe

According to data from the European Apparel and Textile Federation (EURATEX), a significant increase in imports from China and other Asian countries was observed in the first half of 2025.

Imports of Chinese clothing and textiles to Europe increased by 19.9%, reaching €17.3 billion, up from €14.5 billion in the first half of 2024.

The increase was greater in clothing (22.3%) than in textiles (15.7%).

It is noted that the tariffs imposed by Trump led to a 19% reduction in Chinese exports to the US, redirecting these exports to Europe.

Chinese companies, unable to sell to the US, are pursuing a very aggressive policy towards Europe.

Alongside China, other Asian countries are also showing significant increases in exports to the EU, particularly in clothing:

  • Bangladesh (+17.9%)

  • India (+15.4%)

  • Pakistan (+16.6%)

  • Vietnam (+17%)

  • Cambodia (+30%)

Among those who lost out due to the increase in imports from Asia to the EU are:

  • Turkey, with a decrease of –7% in value and -11% in volume.

  • Tunisia, with -4% in value and -7% in volume.
