China August Cotton Imports 240,119 Tons, Doubled On Year

BEIJING, Sep 20, 2010 (Dow Jones Commodities News Select via Comtex) -- China's cotton imports in August more than doubled in volume compared with last August, to 240,119 metric tons, the General Administration of Customs said Tuesday.

August cotton imports rose 42% compared with July, based on a Dow Jones Newswires calculation.

In the first eight months of the year, China imported 1.95 million tons of cotton, also doubling on year, Customs said.

China is the world's largest cotton importer and gets most of its supplies from producing countries such as the U.S., Uzbekistan and Australia.
