Impact of waterlog on Chinese cotton market

The impact of excessive rainfall and floods in the China's inland areas on cotton production:

Hubei Province: some cotton fields are flooded, especially in Qianjiang and Xiantao cities, the cotton fields are severely affected. Nevertheless, cotton production in Hubei has declined year by year. In 2020/21 season, the production in Hubei may account for about 10% of the inland (and account for 1% of the nationwide), and the cotton production in Hubei is expected to be around 60,000 tons.

Anhui Province: the low-lying cotton fields are soaked by rain, and the local cotton farmers could not manage, so the cotton production is expected to be affected. The higher-lying cotton fields have smooth drainage, but due to continuous rainfall, the soil nutrients in the cotton fields are seriously lacking, and with the influence of insects, the development of cotton crops is not normal. The cotton production in Anhui accounts for less than 10% of the cotton output in the inland (less than 1% of the nationwide), which is around 50,000 tons.

Hebei Province and Shandong Province: the total production of cotton in Hebei and Shandong accounts for more than 50% of the cotton output in the inland (accounting for 5% of the nationwide). It is reported that the cotton is not affected temporarily.
