According to EURATEX, the European Apparel and Textile Industry, the European industry continued to face the same challenges and problems in the first half of 2025 that negatively affected its performance in 2024.
Weak demand, increased competition from low-cost imports, and declining exports resulted in low performance.
Most economic indicators recorded a decline in the first half of 2025.
Clothing production fell by 6.2%, and textile production fell by 1.5%. It should be noted that production has been trending downward for three consecutive years since the second half of 2022.
Turnover fell by 3.5% in clothing and 2.3% in textiles in the first half of 2025.
Exports also declined, falling by 3.6% in clothing and 4.6% in textiles.
In contrast, clothing imports rose by 3.5%, while textile imports remained flat (-0.1%).
The largest increases in imports came from China (17%) and Bangladesh (9%), while imports from Turkey decreased by 6.6%.
Finally, production costs in Europe rose by 1.0% in clothing, while falling by 0.9% in textiles.
