In the first quarter of 2019, Vietnam’s cotton imports declined year on year, while yarn, fabric and textiles and garments imports and exports kept the growth.
In Mar, 2019, cotton imports of Vietnam reached 150.3kt, a fall of 2.8% year on year and up 67.1% month on month. In Jan-Mar, 2019, cotton imports amounted to 379.3kt, down 7.5% year on year, the first negative growth in four years. In the first quarter of 2019, import origins of cotton have some changes from that of Mar, 2018. US and Australian cotton imports moved up. Yarn imports continued to be strong in 2019. In the first quarter of 2019, yarn imports totaled 249.8kt, an increase of 7.6% year on year. Import origins changed a little compared with the same period of last year, with imports from China mainland and Thailand up. Yarn exports witnessed a yearly growth of 14.2% to 384.9kt in Jan-Mar, 2019, as the buying from China was buoyant, and yarn prices climbed up. Yarn export structure was similar to that in the same period of last year, while the proportion of US declined. Fabric imports were $2.87 billion in the first quarter of 2019, an increase of 7.3% year on year. import origins were similar with that in Jan-Mar, 2018. Vietnam’s textile industry development kept high growth rate in 2019. Textile and garment export value totaled $7.136 billion in Jan-Mar, 2019, up 10.8% year on year. The export structure of textile and garments has big change compared to last year. Import and export pattern of cotton textile industry is basically steady. In the whole industrial chain, the structure alters frequently in the upstream market, while the structure is relatively steady in the downstream market. |
