China will issue 200,000 metric tons of sliding tariff rate cotton import quotas to textile enterprises engaged in the processing trade to meet their cotton needs, according to a document released by the state planner on Monday.
This is the same as the amount in last year's announcement.
Quotas will be distributed based on contract applications up to the total limit, after which no further applications will be accepted, the National Development and Reform Commission said.
The application deadline is December 31. The document does not specify the exact timing for quota issuance.
According to customs data, China's cotton imports from January to July fell sharply by 74.2% to 520,000 metric tons.
