Egyptian textile sees increase in exports by 3pc in 10 month

At the recent ‘Destination Africa’ exhibition for readymade clothes, organized by the International Labor Organization (ILO), in collaboration with Egyptian textiles export councils, among others held in Cairo. The Egypt’s Textile Export Council (TEC) chairman Hassan Eshra said that Egypt’s textile exports has increased by 3 percent between January to October standing at $673 million over $651 million in the same period previous year.

Turkey topped the nations importing Egyptian textile with a share of $230.27 million of the exports, followed by Italy ($132.98 million), Saudi Arabia ($26.79 million) and Tunisia ($21.85 million).

Egypt’s textile exports to Germany and Portugal, meanwhile, reached $16.89 million and $13.19 million respectively.

The two day event took place on November 11-12 attracted over 100 exhibitors from 15 different African countries.

A delegation of foreign companies interested in investing in Egypt visited the textile industries city in Minya governorate and has shown interest in investing there in 2019.

The textile sector is one of the most promising sectors in Egypt as it contributes 34 percent to industrial output; it also provides jobs for up to 1.5 million workers.
