By November 30, inspection volumes of 2020/21 cotton reached 3.225 million tons in China, including 3.1796 million tons of Xinjiang cotton, up 10.2% year on year. The quality of 2020/21 Xinjiang cotton reduces much, mainly reflecting in the higher volumes of light spotted cotton, inferior length and strength, higher Micronaire. Then, what changes are seen in the indicators from last year?　What about the monthly change? This article will analyze based on the inspection data by end November, and yearly change of different indicators. (The indicators only refer to the 2020/21 Xinjiang cotton, and the yearly change is based on the data by the end November.)

1. Color index

For the color index, the proportion of white cotton, grade-2 cotton sees the largest year-on-year reduction, down 7.1% from the same period of last year. The proportion of white cotton, grade-4 cotton declined by 5.5%, while that of white, grade-3 cotton increased, up 5.3% year on year. The proportion of light spotted, grade-1 and grade-2 cotton increased by 2.4% and 3.8% respectively. In terms of volumes, the ginning speed is faster this year, and inspection volumes of Xinjiang cotton have risen by 294kt year on year, but the volumes of quality above grade-3 cotton, white, only rose by 164kt.

2. Length

The length of 2020/21 Xinjiang cotton saw significant decrease. The proportion of cotton with length at 29mm and above declined by 33.7% year on year, and that of cotton with length at 29mm wad down by 23.7%. That of cotton with length at 30mm and above declined by 10.1%. However, proportion of cotton at length 28mm and 27mm increased somewhat.

3. Breaking tenacity

The cotton with strength at 29gpt and above took lower proportion this year, with the proportion of length at 29gpt and above down by 16.7% year on year. Though S3, length at 26-28.9gpt, took a higher proportion of 17.5% year on year, the actual strength has reduced much as there is no detailed segments. According to survey on spot cotton, the proportion of cotton at 26-27gpt increased.

4. Length uniformity

The proportion of cotton at U2 declined by 12.2% year on year, while that of cotton at U3 rose by 11.3%.

5. Micronaire

Proportion of cotton at Micronaire A+B fell down by 14.4% year on year, while that of cotton at Micronaire C2 rose by 14.6%. Though the inspection volumes of new cotton rose by 294kt, the volumes of cotton at Micronaire A+B reduced by 225kt.

6. Ginning quality

Ginning quality was little changed. The proportion of cotton at P1 declined by 1.7% year on year, and that of cotton at P2 rose by 2.1%.

Conclusion

Looking from the proportion and volume change from last year, the indicators of length and strength become inferior obviously for 2020/21 Xinjiang cotton, and volumes of cotton at Micronaire C increase. By end November, the proportion of cotton with length at 29mm and above reduces by 33.7% year on year, and that of cotton with strength at 29gpt and above also decreases by 16.7%. For Micronaire, the proportion of cotton at Micronaire A+B reduces by 14.4%, while that of cotton at Micronaire C2 rises by 14.6%.
