Inditex sticks to sustainability. The president of the fashion retailer has taken part in the New Economy Forum organized by Bloomberg in Beijing. In the session, Isla pointed out the group’s efforts to reduce polluting emissions, save water use, recycle residues and remove single-use plastic.
The session under the title Climate Change to Climate Action: Saving the World has gathered China’s minister for climate change, Xie Zhenhua; chief executive officer of the multinational company of beer and beverages Anheuser-Busch InBev, Carlos Brito; and founder and chief executive officer of Gro-Intelligence, Sara Menker.
In his statement, Isla detailed Inditex’s contributions to sustainability in terms of reducing 20% of polluting emissions and saving 50% of water use. In 2018, these measures were incorporated to all stores of the group in China. In this fiscal year, all Zara stores around the world have summed to the pledge and in 2020, this will apply to the rest of the group’s chains.
In 2023, all residues from Inditex’s facilities will be reused or recycled and no more single-use plastics will be used
The president of Inditex also described this as a move towards circular economy. The executive explained that in 2020, all stores from the company will have containers to collect already worn items. Moreover, in 2023, all residues from Inditex’s facilities will be reused or recycled and no more single-use plastics will be used.
“Before 2025, 80% of energy used in Inditex’s networks, logistics hubs and stores will be renewable”, stated Isla. The executive also pointed out that “before 2025, the totality of cotton, linen and polyester used by all eight brands of the group will be organic, sustainable and recycled”.
