ABIDJAN, April 24 (Reuters) - Ivory Coast cotton output for the 2019/20 season is forecast to be 500,000 tonnes, up from about 430,000 tonnes the previous season, the cotton ginners association said on Wednesday.
“Farmers are getting the land ready. They will start sowing next month with the first rains,” Christophe N’Dri, the executive secretary of the association, said.
Ivory Coast previously revised down its 2018/19 cotton output forecast from 500,000 tonnes to 470,000 tonnes.
The government has said it aims to hit 600,000 tonnes of production by 2020.
The cotton season in Ivory Coast runs from May to April, with sowing from April to June and harvesting from October to January. Ginning and marketing take place from November to April.
