The 4th Global Food Forum, an annual event organized by the European think tank Farm Europe,  took place on December 2 at the European Parliament in Brussels, with the participation of key representatives of the EU agrifood sector and agriculture policy makers.

NEUROPUBLIC’s President Fotis Chatzipapadopoulos was one of the speakers of the Working Session «Innovation and agriculture: a concrete answer to both sustainability and economy?» and presented the way in which the  gaiasense smart farming system contributes to the economic and environmental sustainability of Greek agriculture, referring to the significant quantitative and qualitative results achieved during its implementation in Greece over the last years.

In addition, during his presentation, Mr. Chatzipapadopoulos highlighted the importance of developing a national smart farming infrastructure that would allow the provision of high quality and precision advisory services to all Greek farmers – even to smallholder ones – and their organizations. At the same time, he highlighted the importance of the infrastructure for the effective implementation and monitoring of the Common Agricultural Policy.

From her side, Director General of GAIA EPICHEIREIN Ms. Elli Tsiforou, in the context of the Working Session “European Union Wine Sector: An Advantage for the European Union and its Rural Areas” presented the contribution of smart farming in the economic, environmental and social viability of the EU wine sector, through the experience of implementing the gaiasense system in the smart farming pilot projects for grapes.

As Ms. Tsiforou characteristically mentioned, the “Smart-Farming as an (advisory) Service” model through which the services of the gaiasense system are offered, has contributed to the democratization of the digitization of agriculture in Greece and abroad, as the farmer can access them at a low subscription fee, without having to invest himself in the infrastructure.
