REUTERS: Cotton rises as traders await weekly exports report

Oct 25 (Reuters) -ICE cotton futures rose on Wednesday as expectations of improved weekly export sales figures later this week helped offset pressure from a firmer dollar and a pullback in the broader financial markets.

* Cotton contracts for December CTZ3 rose 0.86 cents, or 1.04%, at 83.79 cents per lb at 11:06 a.m. ET (1506) GMT. Prices hit a one-week high on Monday.

* The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) weekly export sales report is due on Thursday. EXP/COT

* "Export sales will probably be better than the last couple of weeks," said Louis Barbera, partner and analyst at VLM Commodities.

* However, "demand has been the issue this whole time. Anyone who's bought the market because of supply has been rewarded with a steep loss."

* Analysts and traders have highlighted that U.S. cotton prices are unlikely to gain much traction this year despite lesser output as trade tensions have been pushing key buyer China to other cotton producers like Brazil and Australia.

* Demand has not been all that bad when including China’s purchases for its reserve and as per weekly CFTC on-call data, but there are no significant sales yet accounted for in the weekly USDA release of export data, Louis Rose of Tennessee-based Rose Commodity Group wrote in a note.

* "The US crop likely to be 12.5M bales or less; there is only a limited amount of cotton to sell," Rose added.

* The USDA, in a weekly report on Monday, said 29% of the cotton crop was in good to excellent condition, versus 30% last week.

* Cotton's gains came despite an uptick in the dollar .DXY, which makes it more expensive for overseas buyers, and a retreat in Wall Street. .N USD/

* Elsewhere, Chicago corn, wheat and soybean futures consolidated as the markets monitored rain in South American and U.S. crop belts and awaited news of further exports to China. GRA/
