Syria will halt cotton exports after local production fell 30 percent last year because of drought, DP-News reported, citing Saleh Mansour, head of the textile department at the Damascus Workers Union.

Syrian cotton production fell to about 440,000 metric tons in 2010, from 620,000 tons a year earlier, the news agency reported. It didn’t say when exports will stop and for how long.
