LOME, May 30 (Reuters) - Togo’s cotton production during the 2017/18 season increased 8 percent to 117,000 tonnes, the government said on Wednesday.
* That fell short of officials’ 125,000 tonne target.
* The harvest was hurt by poor rainfall but unusually low yields were offset by a sharp increase in the land under cultivation, said Nana Nanfame, the director of the national agency overseeing the sector.
* The price paid to farmers was increased to 260 CFA francs($0.4472) per kilogram during the course of the season from 240 CFA francs, Nanfame said.
