Bangladesh continued its dominance in trouser exports to the European Union (EU). In January-November 2019 period, Bangladesh exported trousers worth € 4.88 billion to the Union, marking 6.66 per cent growth.

The data is released by EUROSTAT and further analysed by Apparel Resources.

During the period, EU imported trousers worth € 17.71 billion in first 11 months of 2019 and saw a rise of 4.54 per cent over the same period of 2018. Bangladesh’s share to this value is 27.55 per cent, which was 27 per cent in 2018.

China is far behind Bangladesh in trouser exports to EU as the shipment from China valued at € 3.04 billion which grew negligibly by 0.06 per cent in the said period. China’s share of trouser export to EU dropped from 17.93 per cent in 2018 to 17.15 per cent in 2019.

Further, Vietnam saw 9.54 per cent surge in its trouser exports to EU by shipping € 716.92 million worth products in trouser segment in the January-November 2019 period.

Vietnam also jumped marginally by 0.86 per cent in its volume-wise exports, which was not the case with Bangladesh and China and the countries plunged by 1.21 per cent and 8.83 per cent, respectively, in their volumes of trouser exports to EU.

India too gained by 3.66 per cent to ship € 615.49 million worth of trousers to EU despite seeing a fall in volumes by 0.13 per cent.

These falling volumes and rising values have been a trend in EU imports for last couple of years and top apparel export destinations have witnessed this pattern in their respective exports to EU in major categories.
