The global textile industry will meet in Manchester, UK, to discuss the most exciting new markets for technical and industrial textiles next week.

Organised by the Technical Textiles Special Interest Group and the Manchester and Cheshire section of The Textile Institute, the Managing Innovation in Textiles conference will look at the changes happening in the output, structure and technology of the textiles industry, covering all aspects of fibres, yarns, fabrics, machinery and manufacturing processing techniques.

The conference will feature 30 international speakers, including Julian Ellis OBE, CText FTI, Ellis Developments in the UK, who will describe his experience in managing collaborative research and development in surgical implants and composites, and Bansal Swarna from the Institut for Textil und Verfahrenstechnik (ITV) in Germany, who will discuss the market for voluminous nonwovens in automotive applications.

Other speakers include Juergen Hanel from Coatema in Germany, Duncan Ross, AVA CAD/CAM UK; Fazil S Khan, Wool Yarns Ltd, New Zealand; Dr Gwari Williams Bako, Department of Industrial Design, Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria; and Prof Kamal Kanti Goswami CText FTI, Indian Institute of Carpet Technology, India.

Organisers said the conference aims to bring together textile scientists, engineers, fibre-yarn and fabric manufacturers, and others interested in recent innovations and their applications in all areas of technical and industrial textiles.

The Textile Institute celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, with a series of special events planned through the year, culminating in the institute’s Centenrary Conference taking place in Manchester in November, immediately followed by the Parliamentary Lunch at the Houses of Parliament in London.

The Managing Innovation in Textiles conference will be held in Manchester, UK, from June
10-11.
