Reports indicate a larger crop by more than a million bales.

The Cotton Association of India (CAI) released the first projection for 2013/14 growing season in India, saying it expects numbers close to 37.2 million bales (375 lbs each).

According to those estimates, next year's cotton crop will be larger than the current season by approximately 1.63 million bales, although this number may change as the new season progresses.

According to Dhiren Sheth, president of CAI, cotton acreage for the new season is not expected to change compared to the current season. It is believed that timely rains will result in higher yield and a good monsoon season is expected to help with the cotton harvest in the coming year. Sheth says that Gujarat has seen an acreage increase of more than 10%, which means the region will once again be the top producing area in India.

For the current season ending next month, the total cotton supply in India is projected to be 42.39 million bales. Production for the current season is estimated to be 35.57 million bales (375 lbs each).
