In Punjab, cotton yields stand at 60 lac bales

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Lowest cotton production was recorded in the current season which was around 50 lac baleslesser than the previous year, Dunya News reported Thursday.

Cotton Ginners Forum Chairman Ahsanul Haq said that cotton production stands at 96 lac bales in the current season which is around 34 percent less than the last season.

According to the figures given by the chairman, textile industries have purchased around 83 lac bales while exporters at least 3.58 lac bales. He cited weather changes as reason behind poor yields. He further said that crops in Punjab have been worst hit by climate this season.

In Punjab, cotton yields stand at 60 lac bales with 43 percent fall while in Sindh production remained 37 lac bales.

Earlier in January Haq had said that at least 92 lac bales were produced across the country in the season. Textile industries purchased at least 41 lac bales due to the lower production, Haq had said.

The total number of bales purchased reported then was 72.71 lacs.

The Ginners Chairman had declared rains among other factors reason behind the affected yields. Reportedly export sales had fallen to 3.55 lacs compared to previous year’s 36,000 bales.
