CAIRO – 22 February 2021: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi ordered the government to develop Egypt’s cotton production and industry to reinstate its world status, said Egyptian Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Radi in a statement on Monday.
President Sisi’s directives have been issued during a meeting with Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli, Minister of Agriculture El Sayed Al-Quseir, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Moahmed Abdel-Atti, besides other concerned ministers.
The meeting has tackled the state’s plan for developing the cotton production and industry in Egypt, with the aim of making the best use of Egypt's competitive advantages in cotton production worldwide. Egypt is famous for its high-quality cotton due to its long-stable fabric.
To meet the cotton industrial needs, President Sisi directed the state to increase the cultivated areas. He also ordered the government to establish national factories that produce high-quality cotton products at affordable prices for citizens.
The meeting also tackled the executive phases of Toshka development projects, which include the areas that will be reclaimed, the provision of water resources and the infrastructure, the industrial works, and the development of roads and axes leading to the Southern Salley area.
The President asked for using agricultural methods that are commensurate with the nature of the lands and the climate of Toshka.
