Data published by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics has revealed cotton imports in April shrank 0.01% from the prior month, to 52,464 tonnes, surging 105.38% on an annual basis.
Total imports between January and April soared 202.31%, against the same period of 2015, to 237,391 tonnes.
Local analysts believe cotton imports will jump once again in May, because of the tight supply on the market. And the robust demand for foreign lint may even continue until the end of 2016, as the local production plunge was witnessed in major cotton planning regions.
