Mango, one of the leading fashion groups, is all set to become a part of the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) to strengthen its commitment to increase the volume of more sustainable cotton it sources. By joining this initiative, Mango will support good practices within the cotton sector and will promote the procurement of more sustainably-grown cotton. The goal of the Better Cotton Initiative is to transform the global production of cotton, based on the three pillars of sustainability: the environmental, social and economic aspects, and to succeed in making Better Cotton a mainstream commodity. Through the Better Cotton Initiative and its partners, farmers receive training on how to use water efficiently, care for the health of the soil and natural habitats, reduce use of the most harmful chemicalsand apply decent work principles.

In its commitment to sustainability, Mango is continuing to develop its commitment through the Take Action programme, the project which includes all the initiatives aimed at creating a more sustainable business model. As part of this programme, Mango has launched its third Committed collection, made of fabrics such as Tencel, recycled polyester and organic cotton.

As part of the Take Action programme, Mango has set itself the target that 50 per cent of the cotton it sources will be of sustainable origin by 2022. This commitment also includes other initiatives such as Second Chances, the project involving the collection of used clothing and footwear. In the last year, the firm has added more than one hundred containers in selected stores (available in Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands, and United Kingdom) in order to collect 10 tonnes by the end of this year.
